Why BMWs Scrambler Is Better Than The R NineT

Thats right, Hannah Elliott from Bloomberg thinks the BMW R nineT Scrambler is better than its predecessor. A few R nineT enthusiasts may bring out the pitchforks, but just take a look at her reasons first.

Of course, theres the price difference. The R nineT will cost someone a hefty $15,095 whereas the 2017 R nineT Scrambler sits at a more affordable base price of $13,000. To save a bit of money, its best to stick with the standard fuel tank, telescopic forks, and speedometer instead of the optional multifunction display. You may not be getting BMW's upside-down telescopic fork, but the traditional forks on the Scrambler performs better on uneven roads.

Then there are the aesthetics of the Scrambler. Monolithic brushed gray gas tank that can hold 4.5-gallons of fuel looks like something Paul Newman rode in the 1970s. Its wheels are a tad larger than its predecessors and they come with optional knobby tires with dual exhaust pipes sitting higher and closer to the body than those of the R nineT. A saddle-leather brown seat is long enough to comfortably accommodate two riders or an adventurer and their luggage. Rounding out the list is the Scrambler headlamp and classic analog speedometer.

As for performance, the Scrambler is lighter and more nimble at just 485 pounds even with its beefy air-cooled flat-twin 1,170cc boxer engine. That 110-horsepower and 86 pound-feet of torque is more than enough to get the light body moving.

Theres plenty of reasons to choose the Scrambler over the R NineT and these are just some of them.

I don't understand what happened with this bike? It created so much hype nearly two years ago. Then, it was never released. Now, it's finally coming out and the other guys have Scramblers coming out the wazoo. Talk about a missed opportunity.
